HOLLY SMITH – LCNA – 15 & Under
A WARM opening round to the season saw the Cats 15 & Unders go down to West by eight, despite a strong opening half to their game.
Captain Marlee Robbins started the game in C, a strong presence across the court all game; alongside her in WA, Isabella Luers helped create strong feeding opportunities for shooting combo Adele Murphy, GS and Renee Gorman, GA.
Leading the defensive duo was Vice Captain Chloe Kurzman, GK and Ylana Grigg, GD, the two making turn overs throughout the quarter, forcing errors, helping the Cats finish the first quarter strong with an 11 to seven lead.
The second quarter saw Stacey Edwards take the WA bib, her strong leads and second efforts helping the cats finish out the second quarter with a two-point lead, 18 to 16.
In an effort to provide some relief from the heat, a mid-court shuffle saw Marlee step into WD and Brooklyn Mutch take the WA role.
Fewer scoring opportunities saw the Cats convert just three goals to West’s 10 in the third, the quarter finishing 21 to 26.
The fourth quarter provided a good opportunity for coaches to identify some important focus points for training and despite a stronger finish to the game with defensive turn overs and a shooting accuracy increase, the Cats were defeated, 28 to 36.
