The OneFortyOne Pioneers have received a tremendous boost with the current captain Jasmin Howe re-signing for the 2022 NBL1 South Season.
After two seasons impacted by COVID-19, the OneFortyOne Pioneers are excited about what Howe can achieve in the 2022 season.
Howe is a former Millicent Magic junior who grew up watching the Castec Rural Pioneers Men’s team, which motivated her to return to the Limestone Coast and sign with the OneFortyOne Pioneers in 2020.
Howe was impressive during the COVID-19 shortened NBL1 South 2021 season averaging 41.5% field goal percentage and a very credible 17.69 points averaged per game with 5.38 average rebounds.
OneFortyOne Pioneers head coach Matt Sutton said he was delighted to hear his captain recommitted to the Pioneers.
“Having an experienced player from the South East lead the group demonstrating to the young hoopsters in our community there is a local pathway to elite basketball is crucial for us,” he said.
“Jazz was our top scorer in 2021 and is an elite shooter with a natural ability to stretch the floor, which is vital in today’s game.
“I look forward to getting to work with Jazz in preparation for our 2022 campaign.”
The Castec Rural Pioneers are also excited after former Mount Gambier Lakers junior Kane De Wit has re-signed for the 2022 NBL1 South Season.
De Wit was a national championship player with the Castec Rural Pioneers in 2015 and 2017 before playing for the Forestville Eagles in the Adelaide Premier League in 2019 and 2020.
He returned to the Ice House this year and in his first season back with the Pioneers, De Wit had a solid all-round performance.
He averaged 6.23 points per game with a field goal percentage of 36.36%, while also registering 5.384 assists per game and 5.23 rebounds per game.
Castec Rural Pioneers head coach Richard Hill said it was fantastic De Wit had signed on with the Pioneers for another season.
“I’m excited to have Kane returning,” he said.
“He is a key component for future Pioneer success.
“He is a floor leader who is strong at both ends of the court.
“Whilst Kane led our team in steals and assists and was our best perimeter defender, I believe there is still much room for improvement in his game.”
The Castec Rural Pioneers and the OneFortyOne Pioneers will start their 2022 NBL1 South campaigns in April 2022.
