The next stage of the establishment of a brewery at Beachport will take place in Adelaide on Thursday when a licence application is considered by the Liquor and Gaming Commissioner.
The brewery has been earmarked for number five Beach Road near the foot of the jetty.
It was the site of the first depot in 1945 of the newly-formed South Australian Fishermen’s Cooperative Limited (SAFCOL).
The current building on the site was erected as a lobster receival depot in 1982.
The licence application has been submitted by Beachport Enterprises Pty ltd which is a family-owned business which also has local farming and various commercial interests.
To be known as Beachport Brewing Co, it is seeking a liquor sales and production licence as well as authority to provide on-site consumption each day for up to 100 patrons.
Public comment on the application was invited.
Earlier this year, an associated company obtained planning approval from Planning SA to undertake internal modifications to the existing building.
Furthermore, permission was granted to use the building as a smallgoods meat wholesale warehouse and brewery and distillery with a tasting licence.
