Rain puts dampener on launch

The Millicent Bowls Club has opened its 2022/23 season with a special day last week.

Wattle Range councillor and past club president John Drew was invited by Millicent Bowls Club president Peter Hyland to officially open proceedings.

After officially opening the season, Hyland invited Ladies Singles champion Lyn Scudds to roll the jack and play the first bowl for the season followed by Men’s Singles Champion John Buhlmann, who put down the first bowl for the men.

After the official part of the day, members played two games of 10 ends before the day was washed out after just five ends.

With two rinks coming in equal with 13+3, both teams received a pen each for their efforts.

The winning rinks were, Bob Baxter, Derrick Lindh, Iain Campbell, Faye Hill, Kym Stewart, Derk Pietersma, George Hobson and Mary Campbell.

Coming in third only one shot short was the rink of Sam Schofield, Malcolm Wright, Frank Cooper and Mary Clifford.

Earlier in the week a round of 2-4-2 bowls was completed without interruption.

A total of 30 players took part in the game and the winning team was a triple in Bob Baxter, Aaron Emonson and Steve Carnellor with a very good score of 38+27.
