Coastal champs held

Port MacDonnell held its men’s and ladies Championship Fours last week.

The men’s competition was sponsored by Herron Todd White/JM and ML Vaughan.

Winners on the day were skipper Tim Wrightson, Wayne Dowdell, Keith Dowdell and Des Horrigan, while skipper Danny Gaut, Lance Fisher, Justin Brown and Joe Pruis were runners-up.

Four men’s team competed, with Danny Gaut’s team defeating Adam Wilson’s team.

Scores were level after 12 ends with an extra end needing to be played, with Gaut scoring one to advance to the final.

Tim Wrightson’s team easily accounted for Kel Butler’s side to progress to the final.

Gaut’s side got away to a good start and won the first four ends.

However, after 10 ends Wrightson’s team led 7-5.

Wrightson’s side picked up 10 shots from the last five ends to win the title 17-7, giving the team back-to-back wins.

The ladies competition was sponsored by She’s Apples/J Grosvenor.

Winners on the day were skipper Heather Richards, Jan Dowdell, Sharon Perryman and Suzanne Connell.

Skipper Robyn Burley’s team of Roma Henderson, Lyn Vanderley and Julie Beaman finished runners-up.

With only three ladies teams competing, Richards’ team defeated Carol Schmidt’s side to advance to the final against Burley’s team, which had the bye.

In an entertaining game Richards’ side got out to a 7-2 lead after three ends and by the fifth end Burley’s team had closed the gap to two, 8-6.

The match tightened up as by the tenth end the Richards team held a slender lead, 10-9, making it anybody’s game.

At the completion of the 15th end the Richards team had retained the one-point lead, 15-14, giving the side back to back titles.
