Aged care facility undergoes inspection

Boneham Aged Care Services in Millicent has recently had its three-yearly accreditation unannounced visit from the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission.

Owing to COVID, it was 18 months later than originally scheduled.

The last such visit to the 110-bed facility was in August of 2018 when two assessors found that Boneham had met all 44 standards.

Matters have changed for the 2023 inspection as a team of three assessors spent three days at Boneham reviewing it against the revised eight aged care standards.

Boneham chief executive Michael Filsell said it was a positive learning experience.

“Feedback from the assessors was that our residents and families were praiseworthy of the care we provide them, that staff members knew each resident well and were observed to provide excellent care and that residents and family members were involved in their care planning and ongoing communication,” Mr Filsell said.

“The assessors made some recommendations about how we could further improve our care provision and most of those were implemented whilst they were still on site.

“Boneham will receive our report from the assessment visit within the next couple of weeks at which time we will be able to see if any of their recommendations are listed as ‘not met’ against the eight quality standards.

“I must say an enormous thank you to our wonderful staff.

“In a time where many organisations are receiving multiple adverse findings from their accreditation visits, it was pleasing to see that our visit reinforced that we are very much on the right path and have a caring and attentive staff team.”
