West Gambier v Millicent
A season defining match will take place in round 15 as first placed Millicent take on second placed West Gambier as the sides fight for the minor premiership in 2023.
The sides have met twice already in 2023 with each taking one win a piece.
Both sides are coming off massive wins in the last round, with West Gambier going big against South Gambier and Millicent notching up a ton against Casterton Sandford in a massive win.
Whichever side manages to secure the four points will be confident that it can finish on top of the ladder come season’s end.
Fraser Bradley will be a focus for the West Gambier defence after his 11-goal match in round 14.
Daron McElroy has been the danger man for West Gambier having booted five majors against South Gambier.
The two sides are favourites to face off against each other in the grand final and will probably meet in the first final with the winning side in round 15 having the mental edge of the opposition.
It will be a tough contest with both sides having shown its ability to score big in recent matches.
Millicent are the reigning premiers though and will believe they can get it done against the new challengers.
North Gambier v Casterton Sandford
North Gambier has locked in third place this season meaning it can use the final two matches to prepare itself for the upcoming finals campaign.
While the Tigers have booked a finals berth, its opposition Casterton Sandford is still fighting for the chance to play finals in 2023.
After a good start to the season, the Cats have seen a form slump in recent weeks which saw the side drop matches to East and South Gambier.
Casterton Sandford will need to win one of its final two games and hope results go their way if the Cats are to see finals this season.
Going up against a North Gambier side with not much to play for in the home and away season will provide them with the perfect opportunity to cause an upset away from home.
The next round match against South Gambier will be do or die for both teams.
Sam Stafford will be the key for Casterton Sandford, as he has been a major problem for North Gambier’s opposition week in week out.
A win away for Casterton Sandford will give them a good chance at playing finals with one week remaining and it will give them a boost of confidence should they make it as the sides first finals opponent will be North Gambier.
South Gambier v East Gambier
South Gambier has made an excellent comeback this season and is now requiring a win against last-placed East Gambier to keep its finals aspirations going.
It’s the pointy of the season and there is now only one spot in finals up for grabs with the top three locked in.
South Gambier has played some excellent football in the second half of the season and has begun to look dangerous, but it could be a case of too little, too late if the side cannot get over the line against East Gambier.
East Gambier has also looked a better side in the second half of the season, but unfortunately for the Doggies the wooden spoon will be theirs at the end of the 2023 season.
However the home side could put a spanner in the works of South Gambier’s season with a win.
If South Gambier were to win, then it may still play finals even if it loses to Casterton Sandford in the final round.
The young South Gambier players have been standing up recently and will need to stand tall if the side is to take a win at the Kennel.
Last time the two sides met, South Gambier performed a miracle comeback kicking four goals in the final 10 minutes to take the win.
East Gambier will believe the side has improved since then and will able to hold out against any late surge from the Demons should they have the lead.
