Magpies swoop on Mid South East grand final

A Grade

Kalangadoo 51 d Glencoe 34

Kalangadoo won the toss and started with the ball, scoring the first goal through Ebony McDiarmid.

Glencoe’s overuse of the ball in their attack line allowed Kalangadoo to turn the ball over and push out to an early three goal lead.

Glencoe settled and scored through Chantelle Cocks, after this the game went goal for goal.

Slippery conditions caused errors by both sides and did not allow for a high standard of netball.

McDiarmid was a focal point in the Pies circle shooting 12 from 12 for the quarter and ensuring her side had a healthy 9 goal lead at the break.

Glencoe broke Kalangadoo’s first centre pass and pegged the lead back by two.

Scrappy play by both sides meant neither side could gain the upper hand.

Kalangadoo settled with excellent pressure along their defensive line and great feeding by Jayde Peacock, giving their goalies opportunities to convert and neither let their side down increasing their lead to 15 at the main break.

The third quarter saw youngster Chloe Peacock step up her intensity adding extra pressure to the Murphies defensive end.

Glencoe were not to be denied and through the strong defensive work of Sarah Edwards and Chelsea Owen, Cocks and Jenna Paproth were given more opportunities to convert.

Great work by Glencoe saw them peg the Pies lead back to 12.

Cocks and Paproth continued to work well in attack, despite the pressure applied by Lauren Kain and Lara Munro.

At the other end of the court Chelsea Owen worked hard to curb the influence of McDiarmid on the game, however her accuracy under the post meant there was few opportunities.

With five minutes to go Donna Jaeschke had to leave the court with the blood rule and this gave talented Glencoe youngster Zoe Mulraney an opportunity to take the court in an A Grade final.

Accurate shooting by McDiarmid missing two for the game was the difference in the end.

Glencoe would take a lot from this game and know they can take it up to the Pies.

Best players: Kalangadoo: Jayde Peacock, Lauren Kain; Glencoe: Donna Jaeschke, Chelsea Owen.
