The Glencoe Football Club has appointed Reece Duncan as its A Grade coach for 2024.

He succeeds playing coach Tom Edwards who did not seek reappointment after two years at the helm.

Duncan has had a long successful playing career with Millicent, Mount Burr, Blackwood and Onkaparinga Valley and was a part of the drought-breaking premiership with Millicent in 2018.

Most recently Duncan coached Mount Burr from 2020-23.

Repeated injuries forced him to the sidelines midway through last season.

Glencoe vice president Adam Price has welcomed the father of four sons to the Murphies.

“Reece has a history of developing juniors and moulding them into great senior players, as evident at Mount Burr over the last few year,” he said.

“We warmly welcome Reece, his wife Jenna and their family to the Glencoe community.

“Reece is bringing lots of enthusiasm to his new role and is looking forward to meeting everyone.”

A ‘Meet the Coach’ function was held on Sunday with a barbecue and drinks at the Glencoe Football Club.

Glencoe finished the 2023 season in sixth position with six wins and 10 losses.

Its junior colts won the flag but its B Grade finished at the foot of the premiership table for the first time ever.

The family has a long association with football in the region, with Duncan’s brother Peter recently appointed as coach of South Gambier while their father Scott Duncan has wide coaching, playing and administrative experience.
