Racecourse gets back on track

The storm-damaged Millicent racecourse has recently reopened for training purposes.

The Millicent Racing Club had to repair running rails, the one-time secretary’s office and other structures as a result of the tornado-like weather event on December 12.

An enormous number of mature trees were also felled across the vast land holding which has been owned by the club since the 1930s.

The running rails are back in order signalling the resumption of trackwork for trainers, jockeys and their mounts.

Although Millicent has not hosted an official race meeting for over 50 years, its training facilities are highly regarded and especially during the wet winter months.

The club committee headed by president John Payne is also planning for the annual running of the Millicent Cup on May 28 at the Allan Scott Racecourse at Glenburnie.
