Her time in local government dates back to 2018 but Mount Gambier Mayor Lynette Martin OAM has just received her greatest thrill in her civic life.
Along with her husband Colin, they recently had an overnight stay at Government House in Adelaide.
They stayed in the Hamilton Suite which has previously been occupied by such royal guests as Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and HRH The Duke of Edinburgh and Their Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of Kent.
They were hosted by Her Excellency the Governor of South Australia the Honourable Frances Adamson AC and her husband Mr Rod Bunten.
Her Excellency is also the Patron of the Local Government Association of South Australia.
Mayor Martin spent her formative years in the 1950s in the southern suburbs of Adelaide little knowing she would be spending a night in the oldest inhabited building in South Australia dating back to the 1930s.
She told The SE Voice they enjoyed a taste of the vice-regal life.
“We enjoyed afternoon tea with Her Excellency and her husband Mr Rod Bunten, following which we all went our separate ways to other functions,” Mayor Martin said.
“On the following morning, Her Excellency hosted a formal breakfast for her guests in the Breakfast Room, located in the East Wing, which was delightful with the morning sun coming in.
“Her Excellency leads a busy life attending several functions and meetings on a daily basis, while also hosting events at Government House.”
Mayor Martin has met Her Excellency and Mr Bunten at official functions on a number of occasions and finds them to be very personable.
‘‘Both have an outstanding work ethic and are wonderful ambassadors for South Australia,” she said.
Mayor Martin and Mr Martin said they were honoured to be invited to stay at Government House and represent the City of Mount Gambier.
