North Gambier v Casterton Sandford
North Gambier came away with another positive victory on Saturday as they took down a tough Cats side.
Casterton came out of the gates hot in the first quarter and put the Tigers on the back foot.
The Cats were blazing as they kicked two goals in the quarter while the Tigers could only register minor scores, with the visitors holding a quarter time lead of 12 points.
North responded in the second term as they finally managed a couple of goals on the board.
The Cats kept rolling though as they added two goals to add to their tally, but remained up by 10 at the half time break.
North lifted their standards in the top end of the second half as they worked hard to get back into the game.
After two solid quarters the Cats started to struggle, only kicking a single goal in the third term.
On the other hand, North started on fire as they slotted four goals which gave them the lead and confidence heading into the final term as the Cats trailed by a goal.
The struggles continued for the Cats in the final period as they could not buy a goal and kept coming up short with minor scores.
The Tigers finished strong as they kicked another three majors to seal the victory and snare their fifth win of the season.
It was a great day for the young Tigers with Darcy Arthurson and Mackye Baron named North’s best in the victory.
North Gambier defeated Casterton Sandford 9.11 (65) to 5.13 (43).
South Gambier v West Gambier
South Gambier came away with the four points on Saturday as they took down the Roos in a thriller at Blue Lake Sports Park.
It was a tight battle from the start as both sides got on the board in the first quarter, however by the end of the quarter the Roos edged a small lead as the Dees trailed by four points.
Both sides lifted their intensity in the second term as South responded to the Roos, finding ways to get on the scoreboard as the Dees worked hard to win back the lead before the half.
As the teams headed to the changing rooms the home team held a two point lead.
South’s momentum continued in the second half as they continued to apply scoreboard pressure to the Roos.
After a two goal quarter the Dees headed into the final term with a five-point lead.
Both sides left it all out on the field in the final term as they both put four goals on the board, however West’s big quarter was not enough as South’s efforts from the previous stanza were too much, snatching the win from the Roos on home turf.
South Gambier young gun Cayde Watson had a ripper game, finishing as the team’s best with a three-goal performance.
South Gambier defeated West Gambier 11.12 (78) to 10.13 (73).
East Gambier v Millicent
The Saints headed to the Kennel on Saturday and took care of business with a 106-point victory.
The Doggies gave it to the reigning premiers in the first term, getting two goals on the board while the Saints slotted three of their own.
After a quarter of play the Saints held a nine-point lead.
East continued to keep their competitive spirit in the second term, staying in touch with a three-goal quarter.
However East Gambier still had a lot of work to do as Millicent put four goals on the board to lead by 19 at the major break.
In the second half the Doggies just could not match the Saints’ intensity as they struggled to get points on the board.
The Saints put their foot on the pedal with a five-goal quarter, stretching their lead to 45 points.
The Doggies continued to struggle as they lost their first half momentum, going goalless in the quarter.
The Saints put the finishing touches on a great performance with a whopping 10-goal quarter to seal the victory.
Millicent’s forwards were at their best on Saturday as Frazer Bradley and young Kobe Gibson both contributed six goals in the huge win.
Millicent defeated East Gambier 22.15 (147) to 6.5 (41).
