The OneFortyOne Pioneers women will take the court tomorrow night, coming off the back of a winning double header Victorian road trip.


The Pioneers return to their home court of Wulanda for the first time in three weeks, looking to continue their winning ways.


Mount Gambier currently sits fourth on the ladder, with 11 wins and five losses and tomorrow night will take the court against the Hobart Chargers, who sit in 14th position with five wins and 10 losses.


Head coach Matt Sutton said his side had been buoyed by last weekend’s victories against Kilsyth and Diamond Valley.


“It was good, we were a bit overdue for a really strong defensive performance, I thought the girls did a really good job, following the scout and applying their own initiative,” he said.


“It was great keeping them (Kilsyth) under 50 which was a bit of a crazy score.


“Across the board we played well, Sherrie (Calleia) I thought was a really good contributor particularly on offence, I thought as a group the team did a really good job, I thought the younger players came on and they were not afraid of the physicality which the other team was providing a lot of and it was fun to watch them


“We were hoping our defensive effort would be locked in in the first half, we thought they would be physical .. at times they got away from us, in our third quarter we were not able to constantly score the ball, we changed the narrative on the defensive end a bit, which I thought was really important for us.”


Sutton was also pleased with Sunday’s performance against the Diamond Valley Eagles.


“Zoe hurley played well in what was a really important game for us to get the win and she was able to provide and it was her best game in a Pioneer uniform,” he said.


Sutton said his side was looking forward to playing in front of their fans tomorrow night.


“It feels like an eternity but we are excited to get back on our home court,” he said.


“Hobart are very talented and have good size and depth so we are looking forward to the contest.”


Sutton said while his players were feeling the effects of a large number of games in a short time frame, they were all holding up well


“We are good, everyone has their bumps and bruises and that’s not unique, every team is going through that,” he said.


“We just want to give ourselves the best shot of securing a finals shot.”
