ALimestone Coast construction company is picking up its tools to help a local charity during the rising cost of living.
Steplen Homes are hosting a raffle for Animal Rescue Co-operative to assist the organisation with running and transport costs.
Tickets are $5 and can be purchased from Steplen Homes, Mount Glass and Glazing and Reece Plumbing before the raffle is drawn on September 16.
There are plenty of great prizes on offer with the first prize valued at $800 and including a brand new wheelbarrow, blower vac, vouchers and much more.
ARC Glencoe Hub leader Rebecca Alexander said the hub takes in over 50 pallets of food a year to distribute for free to local animal rescuers as well as to outreach organisations to distribute to community members at no cost to assist in feeding their pets.
“We set up primarily to support animal rescuers, whether that be wildlife or companion animals, by giving them animal food to assist them with the cost of what they do,” she said.
“A few years ago, as our donations of food came in we then extended that to the outreach organisations.
“Whether it’s Red Cross, Salvation Army or food pantries, we give them food so then they can pass on that free food to their clients that are struggling to feed their animals.
“We also do bushfire and flood support as well. We do get a lot of our linehaul for free but that’s our local transport, the transport costs from Sydney and Melbourne to get it to the local transport companies is a huge cost.
“With Steplen’s being community involved, I just approached Tim and Erin to see whether they would like to assist with fundraising so that’s why we decided on a raffle.
“We have contacted most of their suppliers who have donated prizes. We want to thank Steplen’s for getting behind it.”
Steplen Homes building supervisor Tim Smith said the business was happy to be able to support the worthwhile cause and all they do within the South East community.
“It helps the community and it helps the animals which I think are two good things,” he said.
“Fundamentally it’s helping the people who cannot afford it, who are a bit hard up or people that are helping animals and as a byproduct of that it is helping the animals which is the core business of ARC.
“I think that ARC is that well known so it’s good to promote it and what they do.
“ARC typically gets a lot of food but they do not get a lot of money to pay for the storage and the freight and those sorts of things.
“That’s what the fundraising is about.
“To pay for things that you cannot pay for in dog food.
“It is not just the animals it is helping, it is also helping the people.
“We have got a few other ideas in the pipeline because of this so we want to look to help people that might need a hand. Get behind the raffle and help some good people doing good things.”
