Hit and run

Police have seized a vehicle for forensic examination in relation to a hit and run collision in Mount Gambier last week.

Police were called to the intersection of Crouch Street North and Tolmie Street about 10.30am last Wednesday following a report of a collision between a vehicle and a bicycle.

The cyclist, a 72-year-old Mount Gambier man, was taken to the Mount Gambier Hospital by ambulance.

His condition was not considered life threatening, however he was later transferred to the Royal Adelaide Hospital.

A SAPOL spokesperson said the vehicle involved, described as a grey Mitsubishi 380 sedan, had left the scene prior to police arrival.

The spokesperson said officers had since seized a vehicle and investigations were continuing.

Anyone who witnessed this incident or has CCTV or dashcam footage that may assist the investigation is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via www.crimestopperssa.com.au

Meanwhile, power was cut to the surrounding areas as far as Rendelsham following a vehicle collision at Southend on Sunday night.

A utility driven by an 18-year-old Southend man collided with a power pole on Southend Access Road around 11pm.

The impact dislodged power lines which fell across the stricken vehicle.

It is standard operating procedure for the occupants of such vehicles to be asked by the emergency services personnel to wait inside if safe to do so pending the arrival of SA Power Networks maintenance crews.

They came from the Mount Gambier depot and joined local CFS, police and SA Ambulance Service personnel at the crash scene.

As part of the repair process, power was cut to 316 houses and businesses at 12.45am on Monday.

It was not fully restored until 3.29am that morning.

Police said the driver and sole occupant of the utility was not injured and their investigations into the circumstances of the crash are continuing.
