Spotlight on aged care excellence

The daily compassion and care shown by staff at Millicent’s Boneham Aged Care Services was recently acknowledged as part of a nationwide celebration.

Aged Care Employee Day provided an opportunity to honour and recognise the dedication of people who care for the senior citizens in the community.

The residential aged care facility caters for up to 90 residents with over 100 qualified staff on duty 24 hours per day.

They work in a diverse range of occupations to provide the necessary service in an aged care facility.

Under the leadership of chief executive Michael Filsell and director of care Jo McGregor, the team strives to deliver the highest standard of care and service.

Those employed in nursing, personal care, domestic services, catering and hospitality, administration and maintenance were all recognised.

To acknowledge the day, staff gathered in the Diva Room for a light lunch where recognition of employee long service was acknowledged.

Mr Filsell took the opportunity to thank staff members for their ongoing compassion, care and professionalism.

“Every day you arrive here to Boneham to share with our residents, care, empathy and friendship,” he said.

“Aged Care Employees Day catch phrase is thank you for caring which is what you all do, a reason why you are all in this profession.

“The care you provide for our residents in our community is wonderful.

“On behalf of the residents, board and management teams, and wider Millicent community, we thank you for what you do every day.”

Long service was acknowledged with presentation of a lapel pin recognising five, 10, 15 and 20 years of contribution.

A video montage of residents giving a personal message of thanks was also presented.

Resident Jan Armit said she was delighted to be asked to quote what she feels about the employees at Boneham.

“The staff are unparallel… I cannot praise them enough. I think it makes such a difference to have people look after you. Everyone is so friendly. They are almost like family to me,” she said.

The praise and thanks were plentiful.

“We really love all the care and looking after us that you do,” resident Dorothy Campbell said.

“Thank you for all your kindness and attention since I have been here. I have met some lovely people,” Dot Wallis said.

“To all the team in Ibis (wing), they are all five star,” Bill Baird said.

“Thank you kindly to all the staff. You are all so wonderful to help us al,” Ellen Masters said.

“I’d like to thank all the good-looking ones for all their care,” Monica Kenny said.
