The Limestone Coast Off Road Club (LCORC) is a small group of dedicated “off road” people that enjoy the challenges presented by racing on some very average ground, hence the term “off road”.
Today Paul Height and his small band of helpers have assembled a local event, called the “Weedon Pastoral Burrungule 180” being held on a block of ground at Burrungule, around an old stone quarry and through surrounding pine plantations, rocks and grass.
Having successfully held a similar event last year, the group is looking for more competitors for the second running after word got around about how enjoyable the inaugural event turned out to be.
Public are welcome to attend the venue, located at Burrungule Road, Burrungule and can be accessed by travelling on the Princes Highway toward Millicent, then turn left on to the Kongorong Road, travel down south for 3.4kms, turn into the parking area, before the railway crossing, on the left and find a parking spot where signs point to.
From there you are able to walk amongst the 35 competitor vehicles and access viewing of the Buggies and Cars, 4WD vehicles as they commence and complete each of the 2 groups of 6 laps that they tackle to see who can avoid the rough bits and drive the quickest on the smooth(ish) Pine Breaks and tracks around the boundary roads.
Food and drinks will be available at the quarry area through the day, as well as event memorabilia in limited sizes.
Pit action will be from early morning for those that are keen to experience the whole event from arrival and unpacking, race preparation and book in, through the “formal” official stuff and then the event start at 10ish, to completion of the last 6 lap bracket for the “Ultimate” and class 6, 10 and 11 buggies that are the fastest vehicles to compete, at around 2.30pm.
There is an impressive line up of both local and away drivers that are entered to tackle this short course event and includes some past winners of the “Pines” Enduro, held at Millicent over many years.
With a pleasant 19 degrees forecast with a little breeze, the weather is ideal for the event to take place and should see some very close “Rubbing Shoulders” race action.
