The Penola Golf Club played host to the third annual Coonawarra Celebrations Golf Day last Friday.
A total of 26 teams played on a classic spring day for the ambrose competition, which went to the team of Jayden Eldridge, Jake Dempsey, Travis Younghusband and Matt McCallum.
The Mount Gambier quartet produced a winning net score of 54 to wear the red jackets with pride.
Runners-up were Jarryd Nuske, Mal Redman and Allan Henderson, who were fortunate enough to play with local pro Craig Davis.
The gross winners were Connie Magliera, Lou Mouraga, Charlie Le and Alison Fraser with a score of 64.
The Monthly Medal was up for grabs at the Mount Gambier Golf Club on Saturday and Digger Richardson took the prize with net 66.
Richardson finished three shots ahead of runner-up Tony Revill, who narrowly secured A Grade honours from Liam Chant.
A score of net 70 was enough for Peter Berkefeld to claim a close B Grade fight from Andrew Noble, while C Grade was also won by Richardson from Stephen Herbert.
No one could stop Moryn Sullivan from charging towards victor y in the men’s Thursday competition.
Sullivan was the only man to exceed the 40-point barrier with 44, while Nicholas Meretti and Terry Janeway rounded out the podium.
A sea of pink could be seen on the Attamurra course last Wednesday for the annual “Pink Ball” day stableford competition in supporting people with breast cancer.
The format of play was a three-per- son team event with one player on each hole using a pink ball, which must count towards the points score each hole along with the best two scores.
The winning team was Jan Shanahan, Faye Mainwaring and Vicki Clarke with 76 points, while one point further back were Hope Bliss, Gail Stephenson and Chris Morrison.
Pink afternoon tea and raffles were held and $660 went to the Breast Cancer Awareness group who support local breast cancer patients and families with their ongoing recovery.
A Ladies Open Day which includes the South East Ladies Championship will be played tomorrow.
Fine weather greeted the almost capacity field for the monthly par competition at Blue Lake Golf Club on Saturday.
Tony Morandin took out the over- all prize with his score of +3 after a consistent round to edge out Zach Westwick after a count-back.
Westwick had to be content with just the A grade win after a strong front nine with consecutive birdies.
It was a thrilling finish with Trevor Little and Kieran Ashby also finishing on +3.
Another count-back was required in B Grade, which handed Matt Jennings the win over and Callum Harvey, who both finished square to the card.
Mount Gambier’s famed marathon runner Kevin Mansell won C Grade with a sprint to the finish line ahead of Russell Armstrong.
Helen Myers was the leading player in the women’s par round with a consistent effort of +2.
Viv Wilson and Annette Ford filled the minor placings.
The Tuesday men’s competition was a stroke event and Ross McMahon led the way with an impressive score of 88-23-65.
He finished two strokes ahead of runner-up Brad Talbot and Dewain Barrett.
