Eagles soar into first KNTNA grand final

Penola has ruined Lucindale’s hope of continual KNTNA success by securing the club’s first ever ticket to an A Grade decider in Saturday’s tight preliminary final at Kingston.

Both teams had lots of turnovers in the first quarter, but the Eagles capitalised with April Possingham shooting at 100%.

The Roos came out firing in the second quarter after some changes created a higher intensity as Mel Gear proved to be a shining light.

However, Penola still managed to hold onto the lead and continued to march on into the final quarter.

Lucindale forged a brief fightback, but the Eagles were too strong winning by eight goals thanks to the supreme skills of young star Jordyn Adams.

A Reserves
Naracoorte 56 d Lucindale 39

In a highly contested match Naracoorte emerged victorious over Lucindale.

Thanks to good feeding into the goal circle, the Demons took an early lead ard in the second quarter with great shooting from Katherine Mott.

After a good tussle during the middle part of the game Naracoorte claimed the win by being able to capitalise on Lucindale’s unforced errors.

B Grade
Keith 46 d Lucindale 33

After a nervous start by both teams, Keith settled to take an early lead before taking control with some great defensive work and feeding in the second term.

The Crows’ drive through the centre from Emma McLeay helped them increase their lead into double figures.

Lucindale worked hard led by Molly Davidson, but the Keith girls showed their finals experience and finished off strongly.

C Grade
 Penola 43 d Mundulla 35

Penola started well gaining a solid five-goal buffer straight away before extended it again in the second term.

Mundulla made changes at half time and slowed the Eagles’ momentum, but great shooting kept the blue and white in front after a great game to watch.

Best players for Penola and Mundulla were Jessica Lucas and Michelle Leach respectively.

U15 – Kingston 46
d Padthaway 39

Padthaway came out strong dominating the first quarter to lead by five goals before numerous changes brought Kingston back in the frame.

The margin remained the same at the main break with Brooke Edwards (Padthaway) having a great time through the centre and Abby Mules (Kingston) having an impact in goals.

The Saints upped the temp with a brilliant third quarter to snatch a seven-goal lead and their momentum did not slow down until the final whistle.

U13A – Kingston 59
 d Border Districts 30

Border Districts got an early turnover at the first pass and capitalised, but the remainder of the Under 13A preliminary final was dominated by Kingston.

The Saints enjoyed a 22-goal lead at half time and extended the advantage to 29 by full time despite a spirited finish by Borders.

Abby Mules and Mackenzie Burke performed for their respective outfits.

Div 1 – Penola 52 d Keith 49

After an even first quarter, Penola made some errors in the second allowing Keith to take the lead. However, the Eagles regained control in the third thanks to Ellise Berkin.

The Crows made a late push led by Sophie Makin, but fell short by three goals.

Div 2 – Keith d Border Districts

After a nervous start by both teams, strong shooting gave Keith the lead.

Exceptional turnovers by Border Districts’ Georgia Oster kept the pressure on, but consistent shooting ensured the Crows scrapped through to the grand final with Peyton Kotz a stand-out.
