A dog’s tale launches online

Local Paul Manfrin launched his website ‘Me and Bree’ on Friday, which will consist of short stories about his life with a visual impairment and his guide dog, Bree.

His debut story, ‘The first time I met Bree,’ details his experience meeting Bree and her energetic personality.

Mr Manfrin attended an NDIS-funded program called Micro Enterprise Program two years ago, which was an opportunity to explore long-term passions and interests held back by believing he could not achieve them due to his disability.

He said he always wanted to be a writer, so the program co-ordinator suggested he create a website to share stories about himself and Bree.

Bree is a five-year-old black Labrador who lives with Mr Manfrin, his devoted wife and loving twin children.

Mr Manfrin said she is caring, loyal and intelligent along with goofy, weird and sometimes forgetful of her duties.

“She’s just an amazing, lovable dog who’s full of energy and quite mischievous sometimes, it just makes us all laugh and smile all the time,” he said.

Mr Manfrin has been visually impaired with Cone-Rod Dystrphy for 20 years and has approximately 5% of his vision remaining.

Despite this, he still lives a full and an amazing life.

He is passionate about literature, educating others about living with a disability, promoting understanding by sharing his story and he has a love for humour in times of darkness.

Mr Manfrin said he was excited to launch the website and was looking forward to people reading the stories, which are funny, entertaining and educational and will make readers laugh, cry, smile and cringe.

“The stories are light-hearted and it’s just a way of me saying thank you to Bree for the wonderful things that she’s bought to not only just myself but my family and friends,” he said.

“It’s just really great that I have had a lot of support from the community, I’m very thankful for everyone with their wonderful comments.

“I’m so excited about where it’s going to go.”

Articles will be released on www.meandbree.com every Friday at 5pm and people are encouraged to subscribe to the blog.
