Action back on court

The Mid South East Netball Association is set to host the final round of the first half of the season on Saturday, with round nine in action.

After a week off for the King’s Birthday long weekend and the SA Country Championships in Adelaide, netballers will take to the courts at Nangwarry, Tantanoola, Kongorong and Mount Burr.

Just to recap, there were several lopsided contests in round eight, with three matches decided by more than 25 goals.

Tantanoola defeated Port MacDonnell by seven, in the battle of the birds the Pies downed by the Hawks by 26, Hatherleigh was too strong for Nangwarry 59-23, while Glencoe handed Mount Burr a decisive 37 goal defeat.

Mount Burr v Robe

Mount Burr will host Robe on Saturday, in a match which should be a closer affair.

The Roosters currently sit third with five wins, while the Mozzies are sixth, having won three games so far this season.

The visitors will most likely enjoy the lack of a sea breeze on Saturday, and while they should account for the hosts, Mount Burr has the talent to take it right up to them.

Port MacDonnell has split its results thus far, with four wins and four losses, and will have the bye this weekend.

Tantanoola v Hatherleigh

Fifth placed Tantanoola will take on seventh spot Hatherleigh on Saturday.

The Tigers have recorded three wins, three losses and a draw this season, while the Eagles have only registered the two wins.

Both sides are certainly capable on their day, but on paper Tant should have the edge on the visitors.

Nangwarry v Kalangadoo

Perhaps the most mismatched game this round will be between Nangwarry and Kalangadoo.

The Pies currently sit second, having suffered just the one loss while Nangwarry is languishing at the bottom of the table, yet to win a game this season.

There’s no doubt the Saints are rebuilding, having recruited some great young talent, but they will be up against a well-oiled machine in the reigning premiers.

Kongorong v Glencoe

Another mismatch will see the eighth placed Hawks host top of the table Glencoe.

The Murphies are yet to drop a game, while Kongorong has won just the one game and registered a draw.

Glencoe are absolutely flying this year, and unfortunately the Hawks do not have the wings to go with them.
