Additional theatre work has been temporarily generated at the hospitals at Mount Gambier, Millicent and Bordertown. Upgrading work at the Naracoorte Hospital is under way and should be completed by the end of June.
During this time, Naracoorte patients may need to have their surgeries undertaken at Bordertown, Millicent or Mount Gambier hospitals as an interim measure. This includes scope surgeries such as urology, breast and endocrine, gynaecology, general surgery and oral/facial surgery.
Naracoorte Hospital Executive Officer and Director of Nursing and Midwifery Pam Schubert has welcomed the upgrade. “Works are continuing on the Central Sterile Services Department (CSSD), theatre area and change rooms at Naracoorte Health Service to ensure we can continue to deliver high quality care,” Ms Schubert said.
“During these works, a number of minor surgeries and C-sections have been relocated to another suitable area of the hospital.
“Patients requiring surgery are assessed on a case-by-case basis and we are continuing to work closely with patients who may require their surgery to be undertaken at other hospitals within the Limestone Coast Local Health Network according to their surgical needs.
“Works to upgrade Naracoorte Health Service’s CSSD and theatre are expected to be completed by mid-2021.”
