Advisory concerns raised

Acommunity leader has publicly expressed his displeasure at the amount of information he is provided with as a member of the Penola Health Advisory Council.

Councillor Chris Brodie represents Wattle Range Council on the Penola HAC and gave a brief verbal report to its February monthly meeting.

The Riddoch Ward representative said the Penola War Memorial Hospital was having trouble in attracting nurses and support staff.

“I hear more from my wife about what is going on at Penola Hospital than I do as a member of the Penola HAC,” Cr Brodie said.

“She is a volunteer gardener at the hospital.”

Earlier in the meeting, Cr David Walshaw also referred to medical-related measures at Penola.

He said Penola and Millicent residents were travelling to the Urgent Care medical clinic in Mount Gambier as no charges were made.

Cr Walshaw said the clinic was in financial jeopardy and feared there would be extra strain on hospital emergency departments if it were to close.

Mayor Des Noll said it was business as usual at the clinic.
