The next lecture in the UniSA Mount Gambier Public Lecture Series centres around the ability of artificial intelligence and looks at whether Chat GPT is taking over the world – and eventually jobs.
The talk titled ‘Artificial Intelligence and Creativity: Is Chat GPT taking over’ will be presented by UniSA Professor of Engineering Innovation Professor David Cropley.
Prof Cropley will answer questions such as ‘Can Generative AI really produce creativity?’ ‘How does it compare to human creative ability?’ and most importantly, what are the implications for the future of work?’
Prof Cropley specialises in helping people and organisations become better, more effective, problem solvers.
He joined the School of Engineering at the South Australian Institute of Technology (SAIT) in 1990, after serving for four years in the United Kingdom’s Royal Navy.
A recognised expert in creative problem solving and innovation, Prof Cropley was a scientific consultant and on-screen expert for the Australian ABC TV Documentaries Redesign My Brain (2013), Life at 9 (2014) and Redesign My Brain, Series 2 (2015).
Prof Cropley’s research interests span creativity in education, the assessment of creativity and innovation in organisations, the role of creativity and innovation in terrorism and crime and the connection of creative problem-solving and engineering.
Most recently, he has been researching the intersection of creativity and artificial intelligence (AI).
The lecture will be held at 6.30pm on June 17 in the Bob and Gayle Cowan Auditorium at the Mount Gambier campus, with refreshments from 6pm.
