North Gambier v Mundulla – Preliminary Final A


North Gambier will have a shot at redemption after winning their way into the grand final with a big win over Mundulla on Sunday in the Limestone Coast Women’s Football League preliminary final.


Both sides got off to slow starts in Millicent as they struggled to get much going on the scoreboard.


Mundulla struck first but not in the ideal way as they only came up with a minor score while North remained yet to trouble the scorekeeper the first term.


North finally got the ball rolling in the second quarter as they dished off three straight goals while Mundulla could not get a score on the board.


At half time North had taken the lead as Mundulla trailed by 17 points.


North did not have a big third quarter, but they continued to play hard and added one goal to their lead.


Despite the game still remaining relatively close, Mundulla continued to struggle getting points on the board as they came up short again in the third term, only putting a minor score on the board.


Heading into the final term North held a 22 point lead.


North continued to hold strong despite not putting a lot of goals on the board as they settled for another one goal quarter.


Their defence continued to be a challenge for Mundulla as they only came up with one point in the final term to help seal North’s victory.


North Gambier’s Tess Andrews and Sarah Edwards were the two standout players in the win while Layla McPherson kicked three goals.


North Gambier defeated Mundulla 5.0 (30) to 0.4 (4).


North Gambier will now travel to Casterton to face Kybybolite in the grand final for a second straight season.


Milicent v Casterton Sandford – Preliminary


Final B


Casterton Sandford will host a home grand final this weekend after their win over Millicent in Millicent on Sunday in the preliminary final.


Both sides got off to solid starts as they hit the score board, with the Cats able to establish a small lead after kicking two goals while the Saints came away with one after the opening quarter.


In the second term the Cats began to pull away from Millicent as they hit the score board two more times, while the Saints struggled as they went scoreless.


At half time Casterton held a 19 point lead.


Millicent finally got some offence going in the third term as they hit the scoreboard with a goal while holding the Cats scoreless.


After getting back into the game the Saints trailed by 11 points heading into the final term.


The Cats bounced back after a slow quarter, kicking a goal and a few minor scores which helped them get the win after a scoreless quarter from the Saints to end the match.


Casterton’s Tessa Marra was named best on while Phoebe Carlin kicked three goals.


Casterton Sandford defeated Millicent 5.5 (35) to 2.2 (14).


The stage is set for Casterton to host Kongorong in the grand final this Sunday.


Under 16


Hatherleigh v North Gambier – Grand Final


Hatherleigh and North Gambier faced off on Sunday in the Under 16 grand final.


The Eagles started well in the opening quarter, kicking two goals while leaving room for improvement by also adding five points to the board.


The Tigers, on the other hand, struggled to get going early on as they went scoreless to begin the match and trailed by 17.


In the second term Hatherleigh did not do much to add to their lead, only managing another goal while also kicking a minor score.


Despite the low scoring quarter the Eagles still held a comfortable 24 point lead at half time.


In the third term the Eagles began to pull away from North as they started to hit the scoreboard more accurately with two goals.


The Tigers’ struggles continued as they came up with nothing for a third straight quarter.


Heading into the final term the Eagles were well in front with a 37 point lead.


The Tigers finally got things going up forward as they kicked two goals.


However it was too little, too late and it was not enough to challenge the Eagles’ lead.


The win was Hatherleigh’s third premiership in a row.


Hatherleigh’s Hannah Bellinger was named best on ground for the grand final with Amber Chester leading the game in goals with three.


Hatherleigh defeated North Gambier 6.9 (45) to 2.1 (13).
