There are set to be two returning additions to the usual Anzac Day arrangements at Millicent in 2025.
The RSL has announced that four mounted Light Horsemen will lead the mid-morning march on April 25 along George Street.
A warm welcome will again be extended to Army Cadets who will form the catafalque party at the dawn service.
The dawn service at the Cross of Sacrifice will be followed by the traditional gunfire breakfast with the assistance of the Millicent Lions Club at the nearby RSL war memorial clubrooms.
GLENCOE
Members of the tight-knit Glencoe community will honour wartime service and sacrifice at their annual observance of Anzac Day on April 25.
All participants are asked to gather outside the Glencoe Post and Rail general store at 6.45am and then march to the music of bagpipes to the nearby memorial.
The dawn service at 7am will be conducted by Robert Dow with fellow local Ted Peacock talking about his family’s service in the armed forces.
Among the official wreath layers will be the school captains of Glencoe Central Primary School
The service will be followed by the traditional cooked breakfast at the nearby Glencoe Community Hall.
The Glencoe Progress Association has arranged the Anzac Day observance for around 25 years and this followed the closure of the Glencoe branch of the RSL.
GPA officials are hoping for another good attendance with 150 present most years.
BEACHPORT
Members of the Third Light Horse Re-enactment Troop based at Naracoorte have also accepted an invitation to take part in the dawn service which was extended by the Beachport and Rivoli Bay Lions Club member Bob Grieve.
The horsemen will greet veterans and serving personnel and will then stand guard at the seaside memorial.
The guest speaker will be retired Adelaide barrister and one-time league footballer D’Árcy Stratford.
He will read excerpts from his grandfather’s wartime diaries.
A cooked breakfast will be provided by the Lions.
POPULAR EVENT TO TAKE PLACE
A popular annual Millicent commemorative event will take place on Anzac Day.
As part of their Aged Care Mission, the Millicent Baptist Church has been holding Anzac Day services at Boneham Aged Care Services since 2013.
They originated at the request of residents and contain all the elements associated with Anzac Day such as the Ode of Remembrance, a minute’s silence and floral tributes.
The mid-morning Anzac Day commemorative service in the Diva Room will again be led by church member Diane Sampson and it has the blessing of the Millicent RSL.
Assisting Ms Sampson this year will be Pastor Simun Lalich and pianist Elizabeth Groom.
“The service is attended by Boneham residents as well as their families,” Ms Sampson said.
“About 50 persons in all are usually present.”
