MOUNT GAMBIER CATTLE – DECEMBER 9

Numbers fell away as agents offered 1158. These sold to a larger field of trade and processor buyers with both feeders and restockers active across the pens.

Quality was generally good with large numbers of cattle with both weight and condition coming forward however the market suffered from some large falls in price for the second week in a row.

Vealer steers to the trade lost up to 25c as they made from 354c to a high of 420c with feeders active here from 380c to 415c as restockers purchased to 428c/kg.

Vealer heifers to the trade made from 372c to 412c with feeders active to 378c/kg.

Yearling steers to the trade sold from 338c to 395c with similar heifers making from 284c to 376c/kg.

Feeders sought supply from 333c to 409c on steers and from 324c to 368c/kg on heifers.

Restockers turned steers back out from 338c to 432c and heifers made up to 350c/kg.

Grown steers and bullocks dropped another 12c to 15c as they sold from 310c to 352c to the trade with feeder support here from 322c to 394c/kg.

Grown heifers made from 282c to 340c to the trade with feeder activity from 340c to 346c as manufacturing steers sold from 245c to 304c/kg.

Heavy cows made from 240c to 288c to ease 5c as the lighter types sold from 180c to 243c as feeders were active from 205c to 278c/kg.

Bulls sold from 225c to 280c/kg.

NARACOORTE CATTLE – DECEMBER 8

Agents yarded 1623 head as numbers rose at Naracoorte today.

These sold to another large field of trade and processor buyers with feeder and restocker orders also active across the offering.

Quality was mixed across the pens with something to suit all buyers as the market sold to another cheaper trend.

Vealer steers to the trade made from 405c to 415c to ease up to 8c as similar heifers sold from 348c to 410c/kg.

Feeder orders sought steers from 404c to 420c and heifers from 370c to 410c as restockers were operating from 420c to 428c on steers and from 345c to 397c/kg on heifers.

Yearling steers were small in number as the trade purchased up to 375c along with restockers to 372c as feeders took most of the offering from 314c to 421c/kg.

Yearling heifers to the trade made from 315c to 380c as feeders were active from 320c to 382c and restockers turned these back out from 320c to 350c/kg.

Grown steers and bullocks lost up to 5c as they sold from 290c to 371c to the trade with feeder support from 316c to 400c/kg on lighter weights.

Grown heifers to the trade made from 288c to 350c with feeders active here from 332c to 350c as manufacturing steers sold from 243c to 295c/kg.

Heavy cows dropped by 7c as they sold from 270c to 298c with the lighter types making from 248c to 266c as restockers operated from 275c to 310c/kg for some cows that were PTIC.

Heavy bulls made from 250c to 288c as lighter types to feed on sold up to 351c/kg.

NARACOORTE SHEEP -DECEMBER 8

Numbers fell by around half as agents yarded 8886 lambs and 3529 sheep total a combined 12,415 head overall.

These sold to the usual array of trade and processor buyers with a large field of active restockers seeking to turn lambs back out.

Quality fell away with less of the heavy lambs of recent weeks with a large percentage of the offering being of store condition and becoming dry in the skin, however this did not stop the trade types from improving in price.

Light lambs to the trade made from $83 to $127 whilst the trade 2 and 3 score selection were making from $136 to $148/head.

Restockers turned light lambs back out from $50 to $133, whilst those with more conditioning made from $137 to $160/head.

Trade weight 3 score lambs sold from $153 to $174 to average around 750c/kg cwt as the heavy pens made from $168 to $198/head.

The few extra heavy lambs sold from $195 to the market high of $231/head.

Hoggets were making from $144 to $190/head.

The light ewes sold from $42 to $110/head.

Medium weight ewes made from $113 to $155 as the heavy types sold from $152 to a high of $223/head.

Wethers sold to $181/head.

Rams made from $85 to $142/ head.

MOUNT GAMBIER SHEEP – DECEMBER 9

Numbers eased a little as agents yarded 9972 lambs and 539 sheep to total 10,511 head overall which was a fall of nearly 2500 on the previous week.

These sold to the usual array of trade and processor buyers with a number of active restockers who bid strongly over the offering.

Quality dipped this week with a fall in the weight on offer as some lambs start to show signs of drying off in the skin with a large increase in the number of light lambs however the trade still were very keen to secure supply as the sale again sold to dearer trends.

Light lambs to the trade ranged from $88 to $138 with the lightweight trade 2 and 3 score selection making from $141 to $154/head.

Restockers sourced light lambs from $44 to $147 and they paid from $146 to $156/head for those with more conditioning.

Trade weight 3 score lambs returned vendors from $149 to $170/head as these lambs ranged from mostly 730c to 760c/kg cwt.

Heavy lambs sold from $168 to $202 as the extra heavy pens made from $204 to the market high of $235/head.

Hoggets ranged from $125 to $170/head.

The light ewes made from $103 to $143/head, heavy ewes sold from $145 to $193/head and rams sold from $70 to $130/head.
