Artists with a shared passion for public art are currently working across the region for four weeks.
Phil Lambert from Mount Burr first met his mate James Moulton in 1988 in Brisbane, discovering that both shared a passion for art and graffiti and they have remained friends ever since.
James has recently travelled to Mount Burr to stay with Phil and complete a range of art works while here.
The first was the repaint of the Mount Burr public toilets with beautiful images of local birdlife. The toilets are located on Thomas Drive and adjacent to the general store.
They have also worked together on a ‘Red Hen’ rail baggage car that was initially painted by Phil and James’ twin brother Bill Moulton when it was a show piece at the Tarpeena Paint Ball facility.
Phil subsequently bought the train and transported it to his property at Mount Burr, simply because he has always wanted “to paint trains forever”.
The carriage was a part of a three-car Red Hen that operated on the Adelaide suburban lines.
In his youth, Phil lived near the Christies Beach line and the rail cars were decorated by his graffiti.
His decorated rail car is not open to the public but can be readily viewed from the rear of his Thomas Drive property.
Looking to the future, the interior of the rail car will be fitted out as a studio and man cave for Phil.
The two mates are currently working on an art work on the side and across the rear of the pizza bar owned by Phil in George Street, Millicent.
Formerly Mad Penguin, it is now called Joeys Pizzeria & Take Away Restaurant.
There is more to be done yet and they hope to complete more while James is still down visiting.
Phil has also previously created the art work at the Millicent Road Safety Centre and the supersized Mozzie and the premiership cups murals on the outside wall of the licensed clubrooms of the Mount Burr United Football Club at Mick and Jean Walker Oval.
They are keeping tight-lipped but they will be turning their hand to a commercial building in the Millicent CBD with the orange colour featuring.
