Artists take creative approach to perform Fringe acts in city

As registrations start rolling in for Optus presents Fringe Mount Gambier in March, there are some artists who have taken a creative approach to bring audiences back to live shows in a COVID safe manner, including a world-first Drive-In performance.

“Traffic – Drive in Performance for Troubled times” is a fun, socially distanced, COVID-safe, pop-up, drive-in performance experience and a new way to view and engage with live performance in the post-COVID world.

It boasts a large-scale dance performance taken out of the theatre and into a new, novel and surprising context, with performers tumbling and rolling across a large outdoor space, lit by an audience of car headlights.

For anyone uncomfortable with the idea of sitting in a theatre at the moment, it’s a handy substitute – a communal live performance experience where everyone can all come together safely and where the main health risk comes from overdosing on popcorn.

Traffic is a retro homage to drive-in cinemas in times gone by and a perfect antidote to the troubled times that we’re living through.

Created by choreographer Lewis Major, who was raised in Millicent, and featuring a stellar cast of South Australian dancers, the performance will be accompanied by an original live score played by rock band legends, Indiago.

Join Fringe Mount Gambier at the Showgrounds March 18-20 and bring a carload to enjoy this incredibly unique experience.
