Ablast of heat with strong winds hit the Attamurra Course for the Nutrien Ag Stroke competition.
With the anticipated hot conditions, the field was reduced to only 95 players, most of those taking to the course during the morning.
C Grade (17.0 – 45.0) player Hugh Matthews (24) shot the best score of the day, coming in nine under his handicap with a net 63.
Matthews was four under his handicap after the front nine, with three pars, five bogies and a single double bogeyfive5 on the par three eighth hole.
He continued his good form by having a score of 44 off of the stick to be five under his handicap on the back nine.
The highlight being a birdie two, on the par three 16th hole.
Runner up in C Grade was decided by a countback with Martin Shephard (33) edging out Bob Dalgarno (17) with both players signing for five under net 67s.
It was Shephard’s superior back nine, having five under which clinched the spot.
Taking out the win in A Grade (-9 – 10) after a countback was Kevin Cook (8) with a three under net 69.
His three under for the back nine was enough to take the win from Stacey Parsons (9).
Cook finished his round strongly with birdie, bogey, birdie on the last three holes.
Gary Button (11) took out the win in B Grade (11.0 – 16.0) with a four under 68 net.
At the turn Button was one under his handicap and hit a hot streak scoring two pars and two birdies on the next four holes.
Three bogies and a triple bogey six on the par three 16th followed, before a final birdie on the 18th.
Only one shot back was Mike Atwell (16) with a three under net 69.
Atwell was one of the adventurous players who played in the afternoon and maybe the heat and strong wind took its toll late in his round.
Standing on the 14th tee, Atwell was sitting pretty being seven under his handicap.
But an unfortunately quadruple bogey eight would have dented any thoughts of a victory.
Others to do well on the day included Mitchell Price (27) and Henry Haywood (20) with four under net 68s.
Shane Foote (20) Tristian Barr both on 69s and Blake Schroder (7), Sam Letizia (9), Peter Jones (19), Scott Page (22) Peter Berkefeld (15) and Paul Kenny (13) all finishing on net 70s.
Twenty-eight balls were given out for scores of net 74 shots or better on a countback.
Nearest to the pins were won by Jayden Eldridge (4) on the eighth hole and Sam Letizia (9) on the 16th, with both sinking their birdie putts to claim an extra birdie ball each.
