Award-winning author Margaret Hickey returns

Award-winning crime writer Margaret Hickey will return to Mount Gambier Library for the launch of Rural Dreams, and a discussion on her previous novel The Creeper on January 17 at 7pm.

Margaret’s newest novel Rural Dreams brings together a collection of short stories that celebrate the Australian countryside, highlighting the richness of life on the land and the beauty of life lived outside city walls. The stories explore a football coach pondering obsession, a mouse plague dictating school yard politics, a failed playwright who asks, ‘who gets the farm?’, and a young woman who returns to her fire-ravaged town.

Manager Library and Community Development Georgina Davison said Margaret weaves in depth characters into her novel bringing them to life in a way that captivates readers.

“Margaret captures the audience with her engaging storytelling, proven by an enthusiastic reception to Margaret’s events within the community,” Ms Davison said.

“We are excited to welcome her back to our city and honoured to host the launch of Rural Dreams.”

The Creeper is a chilling mystery novel set in in a small mountain town in Victoria’s high country. Edenville has been haunted by the horrific murders of five hikers on Jagged Ridge.

Margaret is an award-winning author and playwright, with a PhD in Creative Writing. Her previous bestsellers include Cutters End, Stone Town and Broken Bay.

The event is free with supper provided and books available for sale and signing on the night. Bookings are required. Contact Mount Gambier Library on 8721 2540 or book online at www.mountgambier.sa.gov.au/library under ‘Programs and Events’.
