Awards music to contestant’s ears

Naracoorte entrants fared well at the 2021 Mount Gambier Eisteddfod Music Division held in the Wehl Street Theatre.

Brianna Boyington of Naracoorte’s Stringybach Music was awarded the guitar scholarship, the first of three scholarships sponsored by Lakes Rotary Club of Mount Gambier.

The other two scholarships were awarded to Mount Gambier’s Annabelle Mosford-McGregor for piano and St Martins Lutheran College’s Emily Meier for brass.

A large contingent of Naracoorte pianists also attended and were successful in numerous sections.

The Lions Club of Mount Gambier has been a long-time supporter of the Mount Gambier Eisteddfod, with both sponsorship and physical help where required.

Mount Gambier’s Elizabeth Barnett received the club’s music trophy, a junior encouragement award for a player showing potential and adjudicated across all instruments played during the competition.

The Peter Uylett Memorial Trophy for high potential, again adjudicated across all instruments, was awarded to Gabriel Strachan of Mount Gambier.

The contracted adjudicator was Melbourne-based and in lockdown, so the music committee was grateful when local musician and retired music teacher Jennie Matthews stepped in to fill the position.
