B grade singles champions crowned

In cool and windy conditions the Men’s and Ladies B Grade Singles were played at the Port MacDonnell Bowls Club last week.

In the ladies decider Lyn Vanderley and Nell Lucas faced off.

Vanderley enoyed a great start and did not look back.

Her fine performance saw her crowned as the B Grade Singles champion.

The Men’s competition opened with a close match between Bill McGregor and Graham Lucas.

McGregor prevailed 21-18 and then had to play Graham Hutchesson winning by a more comfortable 15 shots.

Danny Gaut played Nick Negline to win 21-15 in another close contest.

These results setup a finale between Gaut and McGregor.

Gaut adapted his game to the strong, windy conditions best to open up an advantage over his opponent.

Gaut went on to be to be crowned B Grade champion after winning 21-13 in the competition sponsored by Suzanne Connell/Custom Built

Kitchens.

The 11th round of the Mid Week Pennants competition was a sweet and sour affair for the Bay.

Port MacDonnell Red had a fun time overcoming Millicent Blue in an enthralling contest.

Lance Fisher, Keith Dowdell, Heather Richards and Bill Richards gave it their all, but still lost by only two shots.

However, Robert Hutchesson’s rink of Des Horrigan, Jan Dowdell and Kevin Henderson won by 17 shots to pave the way to an overall win.

But the success could not be repeated by Port MacDonnell Blue.

Skippers Barrie Schmidt and Terry Seiler could not lead their team to victory as Naracoorte RSL won by 27 shots.

The Ladies Friday Pennants season reached a new high with a th

rilling encounter.

The Bay’s Division 1 outfit met its match through Millicent Red and the pair fought all the way to the final end.

Nallia Lucas, Jennie Tilley, Carol Schmidt and Heather Richards were in a tough contest and narrowly fell shot by four shots.

But Sharon Perryman, Robyn Burley, Jan Dowdell and Judith Grosvenor was a rink on a mission and saved the day.

Their 27-22 was a grand team performance to get Port MacDonnell over the line by a single shot.

Division 2 was also a tight fight between Port MacDonnell and Penola.

Shirley Taylor, Lyn Vanderley, Cheryl Doddridge and Elaine Pruis showed strong form to beat their opponents by seven shots.

However, their feats were not enough to cover Marilyn Sutton’s 16-37 defeat as Penola prevailed by 14 shots.

Port MacDonnell’s Division 1 team was no match for a clinical Mount Gambier Red outfit in the latest round of Saturday Open Pennants.

Skippers Tim Wrightson, Bill Richards and Chris Richards all suddered significant defeats as Mount Gambier Red cruised to a 107-38 victory.

The Bay’s Division 3 squad enjoyed success against Mount Gambier RSL to jump to third on the ladder.

Jimmy Williams, Bruce Bain, Donald Forbes and Kel Butler stood tall to win 30-22.

Chris Negline, Victor Perryman, Kevin Osman and Danny Gaut brought their A Game to beat their opponent by a comfortable 14-shot margin.

Their successes were enough to hold onto a solid 82-61 win despite Terry Seiler’s team losing by a single shot.

Port MacDonnell’s Division 4 team went down by 45 shots in a high-scoring contest against Mount Gambier RSL.

Ben Tilley, Graham Lucas, Rod Sutton and Justin Brown won by six shots, but were the only victorious rink for the Bay as skippers Bill McGregor (sk) lost and Kevin Norman lost 15-30 and 10-45 respectively.
