Mil Lel v South Gambier
Mil Lel have put themselves in a good position to secure another victory after taking on South Gambier on Saturday at Frew Park with just two rounds left to play in the Mount Gambier District Cricket Association Barber Shield competition before finals sweep the region.
The Dees’ day started the two-dayer at the crease as they looked to build a big score, however they failed to get away to a good start after an early dismissal from Sam Bradbrook.
The Dees were able to improve as Sukhbir Singh and Noah Maxwell put some runs on the board.
Both were patient at the crease as Singh faced 66 balls while Maxwell faced 70 with Singh making 21 and Maxwell adding 28.
Down the list South struggled again as Jed Sims was out for a duck while Parambir Singh made eight.
The Dees got another run boost in the middle of the order as Kobi Maxwell had a solid innings, contributing 27 off 72.
However, the Dees could not conjure up many more runs as Mil Lel were able to get them all out in 49 overs for 108.
Mil Lel came to the crease and did well to not concede many wickets at the back end of the day as Jarrod Sanders and Nick Walters opened for the side.
The pair did well staying at the crease as Sanders made five off 45 while Walters chipped in with 25 off 67.
Will Rowland was the standout for the side as he ended the day 26 not out with Vaibhav Patel down the other end.
Mil Lel finished the 27 overs at 3/70.
Penola v North Sportsmans
Penola had a big day in the middle as they set a tough challenge for North Sportsmans this Saturday.
The Eagles got away to a solid start with Jack Mullan at the crease as they set the side up for a good day, making 44 off 106.
Bredon Smart was another top performer early on in the innings, contributing 42 off 130.
Drew Clayfield and Michael Waters did well to hold their own in the middle of the order and not give away any quick wickets as both faced plenty of balls with Clayfield making 18 while Waters registered 13.
By the end of the day North were able to get the Eagles all out for 148.
North’s Tim Young finished the day with three wickets while Isacc Mulraney and Elliott Fisher both took two.
The Tigers are set for a big day next Saturday as they look to chase down Penola’s run total.
East Gambier v West Gambier
East Gambier and West Gambier are set for an interesting day two as the two sides battled hard on Saturday on the opening day of play.
The Roos started the day at the crease after winning the toss.
Justin de Jong got his side away with 22 off 28 while fellow opener Nuwan Gunawardana was able to put nine on the board.
West continued to chip away and add to their lead as Samuel Coxon made 12 while Sam Willis chipped in with seven.
The Roos got a big lift in the middle of the innings as Sujith Nikethana had a great day at the crease.
Nikethana had a big day, making 65 off 87 including seven fours and two sixes.
At the back end of the innings West Gambier had one final run boost as Trent Badman made 19 off 41.
The Doggies managed to finish off the Roos for 161, before East went in to bat out the day, having a solid crack at putting some runs on the board before the end of play.
Next week Ben Hentschke will be back at the crease for the Doggies on 21 runs alongside Emerson Marks (12).
The Roos were able to take one wicket in the 22 overs as Alex Hill had a tough day getting out for five.
