Basketball fans in for treat as old rivals ready for battle

Tomorrow night the Castec Rural Pioneers will face the Hobart Chargers at Wulanda Recreation and Convention Centre.

The Pioneers are currently second on the ladder in the NBL1 South Conference with a record of 12-4, while Hobart sits seventh with a record of 9-6.

The Pioneers have found some good form lately as they are on a three game win streak but history has shown this season the Pioneers are not as dominant at home compared to on the road.

A key player for the Chargers will be their big man Ole Angerstein who has been dominating all season, averaging 15.14 PPG, 12.07 RPG and 2.29 BPG.

The Pioneers’ big men like Akech Aliir and Titus Robinson will have a tough task keeping him in check tomorrow night.

Nick Marshall will again be a crucial player for the Pioneers as he is having a career year so far and leading the league in scoring, averaging 24.19 PPG.

Head Coach Richard Hill believes this will be another good challenge for his side with how well Hobart have been playing so far and given the history between these teams.

“We always have really good games against Hobart, we have for a long time,” Hill said.

“We will be ready, hopefully we might have Tom Daly back in the line up on Friday night, it’s a quick turn around for us, we only got back at around 11pm Sunday and then we’re back into it on Friday night so there’s a lot to get done in a short time.”
