The Pioneers Basketball Club has secured a NBL preseason basketball match in Mount Gambier in the lead-up to the NBL 2024/25 season.

After a hugely successful game last year, the Adelaide 36ers will be back on court at Wulanda Recreation and Convention Centre on Wednesday, September 4 when the club will play the Brisbane Bullets.

Pioneers Basketball Club President Tom Kosch said that given the community response from last year’s NBL pre-season game in Mount Gambier, it was a priority to bring it back for a second consecutive year.

“Last year’s match was extremely well received, all general admission seating sold out within 24 hours of tickets going on sale,” he said.

“Without the support of our club sponsor ASW Lawyers, bringing national level basketball between the Adelaide 36ers and Brisbane Bullets would not be possible.

“As a club, we strive to bring national basketball to our region. To bring NBL pre-season to Mount Gambier for the second consecutive year is a testament to the community support of the wider community.”

Kosch said the Adelaide 36ers and Brisbane Bullets teams will be active within the community, with promotional visits and clinics in schools over the two days the clubs are in the region.

The Pioneers’ 2024 Most Valuable Player and fan favourite Nick Marshall will again be the headline act after spearheading the Pioneers in the NBL1 South for the past four seasons.

“Nick is a crowd favourite here in Mount Gambier, so I’m sure he will get plenty of support,” Kosch said.

“We are super excited to bring high-level basketball to Wulanda again and we cannot wait for September 4.”

Adelaide 36ers head coach Scott Ninnis said it was important for the club to support the regional areas of South Australia, who are massive basketball fans.

“We saw last year the game was huge, it was sell out and we have a great connection with the basketball community in Mount Gambier,” Ninnis said.

Tickets for the preseason match will be on sale to the public from 6pm on Sunday, August 11.
