The Port MacDonnell Bowls Club continues to battle in the 2021-22 Lower South East Pennant Bowls season after round 5.
The club’s only success occurred in games where the win was guaranteed with opposing Port MacDonnell sides facing off.
In the mid-week competition, the battle of the seaside went to the Red team, which claimed bragging rights over Blue 60 to 36.
Red’s Terry Seiler, Keith Dowdell, Heather Richards and Bill Richards overcame Joe Pruis, Bill McGregor, Lance Fisher and Danny Gaut 32-17.
Robert Hutchesson’s team of Lorraine Mackereth, Jan Dowdell and Kevin Henderson knocked off Michael Glynn, Nallia Lucas, Barrie Schmidt and Carol Schmidt 19-28.
On Friday Port MacDonnell Division 1 travelled to Penola and could not return home with the chocolates.
Despite Heather Richards’ rink of Lorraine Mackereth, Roma Henderson and Carol Schmidt winning 25-19 the Bay could not get the job done after
Judith Grosvenor’s crew lost 17-36.
In Division 2 Port MacDonnell suffered a similar fate, losing a thriller.
Suzanne Connell, Shirley Taylor, Jennie Tilley and skipper Cheryl Doddridge were in fine form winning 31-16.
However, Elain Pruis’ rink lost by 18 shots which overturned the momentum.
Beachport Blue finished on the winning side 49-46.
In Saturday Open Pennants Port MacDonnell’s Division 1 outfit lost another tight tussle with Mount Gambier RSL Red by 15 shots
Playing away from home Paul Weir, Robert Hutchesson, Wayne Dowdell and Tim Wrightson showed strong form winning 27-23.
The Bill Richards led rink also secured their win by three shots.
However, the good work was undone by Chris Richards’ team who could not keep up with their opponents and lost 11-34.
More bad luck occurred in Division 3 where Port MacDonnell lost to Frances.
John Naismith, Chris Negline, Kevin Osman and Kevin Henderson were worthy winners by six shots, but hard fought losses on the other rinks turned the tide.
Port MacDonnell’s Division 4 side was completely outclassed by Millicent Red.
Michael Glynn, Graham Hutchesson, Terry Stone and Cheryl Doddridge were the closest to victory but still missed out by seven shots.
Tuesday night social bowls had a small number due to the Melbourne Cup and only two games were played in warm conditions.
The only one two game winners were Rod Sutton and Alan Hill.
