Port MacDonnell held its men’s and ladies singles events in perfect conditions for bowls recently.
The Men’s competition sponsored by Tonkins Car audio had 11 nominations.
One of the top contenders was Paul Weir, who defeated Keith Dowdell and Terry Seiler to make it through to the Final.
Tim Wrightson also impressed defeating Chris Richards and Robert Hutchesson to make it through to the decider and set up a contest with Weir.
When play started Wrightson got away to a fast start.
He led 11shots to four after nine ends until Weir got on a roll.
Coming from behind he won nine of the next 10 ends to snatch a strong lead.
Weir enjoyed a 21-13 advantage with a handy break before closing the deal.
Weir completed the win with another four shots to get him to a 25-15 after 23 ends and win a maiden Singles Men’s championship.
The Ladies Singles Championship was sponsored by Forty Winks had no less than 10 nominations take to the rinks.
Sharon Perryman defeated Marilyn Sutton and Lorraine Mackereth to make it through to the final as a standout player.
Meanwhile, Heather Richards defeated Carol Schmidt and Lyn Vanderley on her way to the decider to meet Perryman in what proved to be a very close contest.
After eight ends Richards led eight shots to five and looked solid.
But after 13 ends Perryman had caught up and levelled the score at 12 all to setup a grandstand finish.
Richards then answered the turn of events and picked up 14 shots to Perryman’s four to win 26-17 after 25 ends.
