The 2021-22 Lower South East Bowls Association Mid Week Pennant season rolled away last week which commenced a huge summer.
Port MacDonnell Red travelled to Millicent to play the Red team and won both rinks.
Michael Glynn, Keith Dowdell, Heather Richards and Bill Richards won 27-19, while Des Horrigan, Jan Dowdell, Kevin Henderson and Robert Hutchesson were victorious 20-19.
Port MacDonnell Blue travelled to Mount Gambier Blue and came home with two points after Ben Tilley, Chris Negline, Barrie Schmidt and Carol Schmidt won their rink by 10 shots.
The Bay suffered mixed results in the opening round of the Friday ladies Pennants.
Division 1 travelled to Millicent Blue and lost a tight one 38-44.
Carol Schmidt, Sharon Perryman, Jan Dowdell and Judith Grosvenor were the victorious rink by one shot. 22-21
Division Two suffered a tough road trip to Naracoorte RSL and lost both rinks.
The club also had mixed feelings from the first weekend of Saturday Open Pennants action.
Port MacDonnell’s Division 1 outfit went down to Mount Gambier Blue 76-10 to 53-2.
Paul Weir, Robert Hutchesson, Wayne Dowdell and Tim Wrightson won
26-21 and were the only winning rink as Barrie Schmidt and Lance Fisher, could guide their sides all the way.
Third Division travelled to face Millicent Red and played a thrilling 73-shot draw.
Jim Williams, Victor Perryman, Terry Seiler and Kel Butler won 27-21, while Chris Negline, John Naismith, Jennie Tilley and Kevin Henderson had an even bigger win.
But Michael Glynn, Bruce Bain, Danny Gaut and Donald Forbes could not keep up the winning momentum losing 33-19.
Division four welcomed Millicent Blue with one rink winning.
Lyn Vanderley, Darryl Sims, Kevin Osmam and Bill McGregor were the success story 23-18.
On Thursday Port MacDonnell held its open Men’s Fours with teams from Penola, Millicent, Mount Gambier ,Mount Gambier RSL, Kalangdoo and Port MacDonnell.
The winners for the day was a team from Penola of Rex Williams, Don Messenger, Don Kilsby and Rick Mitchell.
Runners-up were Gavin Rowe (sk), Wayne Dowdell, Barrie Schmidt and Keith Dowdell from a Kalangadoo and Port MacDonnell combination.
Third place went to a Mount Gambier RSL team of Alex Heesman, Leon Fox, Peter Bruhn and Alby McIntyre.
Chris Richards and Kel Butler were rewarded with life membership by President Paul Weir at the opening of the bowls season
