The Port MacDonnell Bowling Club held its 15th annual invitation men’s fours two-day carnival recently.
The event was sponsored by Grant District Council, ALL Digital Hearing, Bendigo Bank, Rosedale Funerals, Gambier Tile Centre and Jayco.
President Terry Seiler welcomed players from Beachport, Geelong Cement, Geelong-St Leonards, Heywood, Kingston, Millicent, Mount Gambier, Mount Gambier RSL, Naracoorte, Portland, Portland Memorial, Queensland, Robe, The Lawns, Renmark, Landsborough, Lake Bolac and Port MacDonnell bowls clubs.
Play commenced at 9.30am in perfect conditions for bowling with 24 teams playing one game of 21 ends before lunch and one game of 21 ends in the afternoon.
After the first day five teams had two wins each, leaving Bob Hodgetts with 34 shots up (Wimmera), Dean Wilkinson 31 shots up (Mount Gambier RSL), Peter Lawton 27 shots up (The Lawns – Renmark), Daniel Langdon 17 shots up (Mount Gambier) and Tony Hogan 13 shots up (Portland).
On Tuesday play started half hour earlier in cool and overcast conditions with one game of 21 ends before lunch and one game of 21 ends in the afternoon.
The overall winners were Graham Ellis, Andy Ashby, Robert Corner and Dean Wilkinson from Mount Gambier RSL.
In second place overall were Jim Philpott, Eddy Smith, Bryan Vorwerk and Adam Wilson from Port MacDonnell and Mount Gambier.
Third place overall was secured by Peter Varcoe, Ian Ross, Peter Bateman and Brian Goode from Millicent and in fourth position overall were Tony Hogan, Barry Jennings, Alan Palmer, and Les Baker from Portland.
Day one winners were Bob Hodgetts, Nat Robinson, Red Currie and Gerry Parry from Wimmera.
On day two the winners were Ian Moulden, Harry Childs, Geoff James and Des Moulden from Mount Gambier RSL and Port MacDonnell.
Runners up on day one were Steve Symonds, Neville Kelly, Russell Lawton and Peter Lawton from The Lawns, while on day two it was Gary Bowering, Wayne Legutho, Leon Fox and Peter Bruhn from Mount Gambier RSL.
Full credit must go to the ladies of the Port MacDonnell Bowling Club and the workers for another successful carnival.
