Beach access restriction challenged

Pelican Point residents are throwing their support behind a petition to keep beach access open onto the beach at Bungaloo Bay.

Grant District Council last month received a petition from concerned citizen Barbara Leicester, revealing nearly unanimous local support to keep beach access open.

Described by the council as “community driven”, the petition has received 92 signatures to-date.

“I hope what I am submitting gives the council an idea that more people are for leaving this road open than those who are against it to be closed to the public,” Ms Leicester wrote in her letter.

Ms Leicester added that she had been forced to stop approaching more local ratepayers due to a health issue, but said that only a couple of community members approached had been unwilling to back the petition.

In her letter, Ms Leicester requested that council receive and note the petition, with the presentation moved by Councillor Gillian Clayfield and seconded by Councillor Barry Kuhl.
