Member for Mount Gambier Troy Bell “wholeheartedly” supports Councillor Paul Jenner’s comments surrounding the need for upgraded MFS appliances.
“Regional stations need to be treated equally when it comes to resourcing and equipment,” Mr Bell told The SE Voice.
“I consider this a major safety concern for both MFS firefighters doing their jobs and the city of Mount Gambier.
“I’ll be asking the Emergency Services Minister this week in Parliament as to why, according to statistics, the busiest station
in the region is missing out on vital equipment.
“Mount Gambier is the state’s second largest city and we deserve better than second hand equipment and cast-offs from metro stations.”
Mr Bell added that while Mount Barker had received brand-new appliances, the station is supported by metropolitan and surrounding fire services.
The SE Voice has also confirmed the push has the backing of South Australian Labor Party leader Peter Malinauskas, his new candidate for Mount Gambier Katherine Davies, and the United Fire Fighters Union of South Australia.
