Big Bash season in full swing

East Gambier v South Gambier

East Gambier came away with a home ground win over South Gambier on Tuesday night in the Globe Hotel Big Bash competition.

The Doggies started the night at the crease and wasted no time in building a strong lead.

Opener Alex Hill set the tone early on with 40 off 43 while his partner in crime for most of his innings Emerson Marks made a big impact scoring 34 off 26.

After the strong start it began to go downhill as East struggled to get much going in the back end of the list.

With a two from Dion Stratford and a five from Travis Younghusband the Doggies finished their 20 overs on a score of 114.

South’s Jagger Geary had a solid innings, taking three wickets while Robbie Drenthen claimed two.

At the crease the Dees got off to a reasonable start.

Openers Dylan Clough and Robbie Drenthen got the ball rolling with a 12 from Clough and a seven from Drenthen.

South continued to chip into East’s run total with an impressive effort from Jed Sims, making 18 off 17 balls.

Despite the solid start the Dees began to struggle as they failed to get many double digit scores as Jaggar Geary made 15 while Sam Bradbrook made eight.

South finished on 77 runs

The Doggies had a wide range of solid performers with the ball as Travis Younghusband, Dion Stratford and Ben Robinson all took two wickets each.

Mil Lel v West Gambier

West Gambier continued their T20 winning streak on Tuesday night as they took on Mil Lel at Frew Park.

Mil Lel started the night at the crease and struggled early on with quick wickets from Will Rowland and Will von Stanke.

Mil Lel finally got some runs on the board with Jarryd Burston at the crease.

Burston made a solid 19 off 19 which helped get his teammates going as Harry Hicks put eight on the board while Jarrod Sanders had a big contribution with 18.

Mil Lel finished strong in the opening innings as Archer Virtanen made 10 while Jack Miller put some crucial runs on the board, making 22 off 28.

Mil Lel finished their innings with a solid score of 102.

West’s Bray Stephenson was great with the ball, taking three wickets while only allowing seven runs in four overs.

With the Roos at the crease they got off to a hot start chasing down Mil Lel’s lead.

Captain Justin de Jong led by example, scoring 16 off 12 while the Roos had a short rough patch with Shane de Jong and Jayden Prior both scoring three.

However it did not affect the side too much as Sam Hunt and Jake Blackwell both had big innings to help get the side over the line.

Hunt put 29 runs on the board off 31 balls while Blackwell had a big contribution with 37 off 37.

West finished with 103 runs, bringing their winning streak to three in a row.

Tonight there is more T20 action as North Sportsmans and Penola face off at Marist Park in the final match of round three while East Gambier takes on Mil Lel at Allan Scott Park in a rescheduled match from round two.
