Big Bash season takes shape

Round 4 Penola v Mil Lel

Penola is set to take on Mil Lel tonight in Penola in round 4 of the Globe Hotel T20 competition.

Mil Lel has not got off to the best of starts in the big bash competition, while on the other hand, Penola hase been a very competitive team and are in a good position to make
 finals.

Despite Mil Lel making solid run totals they have struggled to defend their lead which has resulted in a poor start.

Penola are coming off a solid low scoring win last Thursday where they beat North despite only scoring 79 runs.

A player to watch in this game for Mil Lel will be William Rowland.

Rowland has hit some great form with the bat lately and is coming off a great game for Mount Gambier in the rep team.

For Penola Michael Waters has been a standout player and has been leading by example as the captain.

Waters has been great at getting the job done with both the ball and bat.

West Gambier v South Gambier

Tonight at Malseed Park West Gambier will take on South Gambier.

The Roos currently sit first on the ladder with an undefeated record, while South have struggled since their win in round one.

All season West have comfortably been winning and tonight they will be looking for another to lock their spot in the finals.

A player to watch for South will be Jaggar Geary, who has been a consistent batter all season for the Dees and has also shown he can do some damage with the ball.

West’s Sam Hunt has found some great form in the T20 format, excelling at the crease over the past two games, scoring 29 last week and 28 the week prior. Hunt will be a player the Roos will be looking to have another big game.

North Sportsmans v East Gambier

North Sportsmans and East Gambier will face off tonight at Marist Park, with the Tigers coming off a tough loss last week to Penola which may hurt their chances of making the finals in the long run.

That makes this a must win game for the Tigers if they want any chance of making finals.

East on the other hand can decide their own fate depending on the outcome of Tuesday night’s match against Mil Lel.

A player to watch for East in this game will be Emerson Marks. Marks has been great for the Doggies over the past few games, scoring big runs and helping out with the ball.

North will look to captain Elliott Fisher to have an impact. Fisher has been in great form in the back end of 2024 across all forms of cricket and has been a great leader for the Tigers this season, consistently posting big scores.

This match up will definitely be a must watch.

Round 5
 – South Gambier v Penola

South Gambier will take on Penola this Saturday at Frew Park in the final game of the season.

Depending on how Penola plays tonight this game will most likely be a must win to keep them in contention for the finals.

Penola will need to replicate the whole team effort they had in round three against North.

They will be a tough team to beat with everyone at their best.

The Dees will be looking for the form they had back in round one when they played Mil Lel.

With Penola’s finals hopes on the line they will definitely be keen to get the win.

West Gambier v East Gambier

On Saturday West Gambier and East Gambier will face off at Frew Park in what should be a competitive match as these two sides are flag favourites.

West has been great all season and has shown they can beat anyone with either the bat or ball.

East on the other hand has struggled a little bit, particularly in their tough round one loss to Penola.

With West in a much more comfortable position on the ladder than East this match will be a must for the Doggies if they want to make finals.

Despite not dominating the competition as you would think the reigning premiers would, East are still a very dangerous team that can heat up come finals.

With the fire power both these sides have this should be a very good watch on Saturday.

Mil Lel v North Sportsmans

Mil Lel and North Sportsmans will take the field on Saturday in the final match of the triple header at Frew Park.

Depending on how the Tigers play tonight this will be an important game for them if they want a finals berth.

North will definitely need to be at their best if they want a chance at finals and will need Elliott Fisher and Nick McInerney to be at their best with the bat, while Tim Young and Issac Mulraney will have to take some crucial wickets.

The Tigers will have to be at their best to get the win given there is potentially a finals berth on the line.
