CASTERTON SANDFORD V NORTH GAMBIER

North Gambier coming off a win travelled across the border to take on fourth placed Casterton Sandford at home.

Ultimately, North Gambier emerged victorious with a final score of 73 to Casterton Sandford’s 40.

Casterton Sandford got off to a strong start, leading by two points at the end of the first quarter with a score of 14 to 12.

Alastair McCrae and Gabriel Parsons were standout players for the Cats, making significant contributions to their team’s early success.

North Gambier were not going to give up easily and in the second quarter the Tigers fought back and gained momentum.

They managed to take the lead at half time, with a score of 36 to Casterton Sandford’s 21.

However some inaccurate kicking by the visitors allowed Casterton Sandford to remain in the contest.

The third quarter was a tight battle between both teams, with Casterton Sandford fighting back into the game, however North Gambier held onto its lead going into three quarter time.

The scores at the end of the quarter were 43-40 with North Gambier in front with the final quarter shaping up to be a massive one for both sides’ seasons.

However it was North Gambier demonstrating its class and composure, extending the lead and sealing the victory.

The yellow and black blew its opposition out of the game completely with a dominant quarter of football, scoring 30 points, while Casterton Sandford could only add six points to the scoreboard.

Casterton Sandford players who fought hard for the win were named in the best with Michael Krieger, Alastair McCrae, Gabriel Parsons, Justin Carlin, Patrick Milich and Zac Nash all recognised.

For North Gambier Tyson Christophersen, Tim McInerney, Nick McInerney, Cameron Ortlepp, Deacon Ilsley and Darcy Arthurson proved crucial in getting the side the four points.

North Gambier now sits eight points clear of Casterton Sandford going into the bye, Casterton Sandford however will also remain eight clear of fifth placed South Gambier as the side looks set to play finals in 2023.
