Bike riders push limits

The Mount Gambier Cycling Club and South Coast Cycling Club hosted their much-anticipated annual track carnival over the weekend, delivering two days of thrilling competition and showcasing exceptional cycling talent.

Held at the picturesque Mount Gambier Allan Dowdell Velodrome, the event has become a staple on the local cycling calendar, drawing riders and spectators from across the Limestone Coast and Adelaide.

A variety of events kept the crowd engaged, culminating in three standout performances.

Niel Van Niekerk powered his way to a stunning victory in the prestigious MGCC Wheelrace, starting from scratch and overtaking the field with his trademark determination and skill.

Meanwhile, David Radzikiewicz claimed the SCCC Wheelrace title, demonstrating remarkable strategy and endurance.

In the junior division, Sophia Bakker stole the show with a dominant performance, winning both junior wheelraces and cementing her reputation as a rising star in the sport.

The carnival also highlighted the exceptional form of the Limestone Coast Regional Sporting Academy riders, many of whom honed their skills over the Christmas break in Victoria.

Their efforts impressed the crowd and provided a glimpse into the promising future of cycling in the region.

Club organisers thanked all participants, volunteers, and sponsors for their support in making the event a resounding success.

The annual carnival continues to strengthen the bond between the MGCC and SCCC while promoting the growth of track cycling in the local community.

With another successful event in the books, riders and fans alike are already looking forward to next year’s installment of this much-loved competition.
