Blue ribbon status

She may a relative newcomer to the show scene but 10-year-old Mount Gambier resident Isla Carpenter has already secured some blue ribbons for her exhibits.

She achieved excellent results at the 2024 Millicent Show on the weekend.

Her magnificent pink rose in full bloom was adjudged the best rose submitted in the children’s section.

Isla won the equivalent prize a year ago and credits her success to correct pruning and the rights amounts of water and fertiliser.

“The roses were already in the garden when we moved there about five years ago,” Isla said.

As well as the roses, Isla submitted 12 other entries ranging from vegetables to lemons, scones and artwork.

There is no doubt the show exhibition “bug” has been caught by Isla and she will again be involved in local shows in 2025.
