The Millicent Show Society has recently extended its gratitude to the Wattle Range Suicide Prevention Network team and some of the Millicent Show volunteers for painting a large tree stump a vivid shade of blue.
“‘It looks absolutely amazing,” a Show Society spokesperson said.
“We are also giving a shout out to the awesome crew who helped debark the tree back in March. Your efforts did not go unnoticed and are so very appreciated.”
At the request of the Millicent Show Society, a pair of Mount Graham farmers had cut down the decades-old Cypress tree around four years ago.
The father and son duo had donated their time and equipment and left only a trunk intact.
The blue tree in the Millicent Showgrounds joins hundred around the nation,
Other local examples are at the Millicent Hospital, Lake Bonney windfarm, Millicent Domain Playground and the Conmurra farming property of local MP Nick McBride.
The blue trees encourage people to speak up when battling mental health concerns.
The Blue Tree Project is backed by the Wattle Range Suicide Prevention Network.
Its key message is that “it’s OK to not be OK”.
