Bonus point hands Maroons second spot

CASTERTON District has cemented second place on the Hamilton and District Cricket Association B Grade ladder after securing a bonus point thrashing of Grampians at Wando Vale Recreation Reserve on Saturday.

The visitors won the toss and elected to bat first but the batsmen did not place a high value on their wickets and the innings finished after only 30.5 overs with Archie Page (47) and Daniel Jones (31) the only players to post meaningful scores.

The final target of 145 was due to a good all-round bowling performance from the Maroons attack with Justin Carlin (3-26) and Jake Tomkins (2-15) leading the way for the home side.

After the tea break, Casterton District came out and attacked the Grampians bowlers no matter who the ball was thrown to.

Only one player failed to score at better than run-a-ball pace with the target chased down inside the 19th over with Carlin (38), Sam Broomby (28), Tomkins (26), and Tim Holmes (22) all passing the 20-run barrier.

The home side scored 4-149 inside 19 overs to earn the bonus point, an early finish, and a well-deserved cold beverage.
