Borderline Speedway stocked up with action packed races

The Borderline Speedway hosted two action packed classes on Saturday night with the Modlites and the Street Stocks taking centre stage.

The meeting featured night two of the Australian Modlite Title with night one held on the Friday night in Murray Bridge.

The Modlite title had 22 cars that raced on the night with all of them making it through to the final race.

Queenslander Terry Leerentveld took first place in the title.

Edging out second was former Australian champion Ryan Silcock with third place going to another Queenslander in Callum Beerling.

In fourth place was South Aussie Dylan Richter who just missed out on the podium.

Event organiser Cary Jennings said it was a great night of racing for the Modlites with plenty of positive feedback.

“Overall it was a good night racing with the Modlites and the feedback from those people was excellent,” he said.

“It was great to see our track curator Bill Barrows put on a good surface for some good racing for the night.”

It was a special night for the Street Stocks with the running of the Matt Neilson Memorial Street Stock race which was well supported by many locals and visitors from Victoria and South Australia.

It was a special moment for the three podium finishers as all three drivers used to race with the late Neilson when he was competing.

Mount Gambier driver Jason Duell took out first place in the race with another local in Mark Jennings just coming in second with .200th of a second separating the two.

In third place was another South Australian with Street Stock veteran Darren Flatman rounding out the podium.

In the Junior Top Stars Lachie Brown from Adelaide took out first place with local Jayden Garner coming in second with Murray Bridge’s Henry Brumfield third.

The Junior New Stars category featured Ryan Hartman who stood on top of the podium with Aiden Gartner in second and third place going to James Becker.

Overall Jennings was pleased with how the night went.

“All in all the racing was excellent for the night,” he said.

“The event started at 5pm with some hot laps then we were all finished by 9.45pm which was a good night of entertainment with everyone enjoying themselves.”

The next race meeting will be on April 19 with the night featuring night two of the Easter Sprintcar Trail and the Super Rods.
